Almost 30 years after receiving my Bachelor's degree in English, I finally decided what I wanted to be when I grew up - a librarian! What a surprise it was to return to school in the 21st century. There were very few computers around campus in the 1970s. It was the era of microfiche and bound volumes of periodical indices that seemed to stretch for miles. Luckily for me, my career path had always involved computers. I hadn't realized the extent that to which information had been digitized.
Last summer, I experienced the thrill of receiving my MLIS from Florida State University with my 22 year old daughter cheering from the stands. I am the Learning Resources Center Manager at Strayer University, Palm Beach Gardens Campus. I teach adult learners about information literacy, researching scholarly databases, APA format and why you can't always rely on Wikipedia. I love what I do now. I am one of the privileged few who actually look forward to going to work each day.
