Internship opportunities at ipl2: Information You Can Trust
Digital Reference Service Internship
This internship includes some or all of the duties surrounding the daily operation of the question-answering service. The Ask an ipl2 Librarian service works with LIS students from many colleges/universities. LIS students learn valuable reference skills while working with its international community. Similar to a physical library's reference service, the ipl2 utilizes "on-duty" shifts to handle the incoming questions in a timely manner consistent with its high standard of customer service. The ipl2 Digital Reference Service Intern involved with the reference area will assist the ipl2 Administrative Team in working with students and faculty who are involved with the program. Contact for questions: Alison Miller, Manager, ipl2 Reference Services, milleru65@gmail.com
Collection Development and Maintenance Internship
The ipl2's tens of thousands of materials require review, periodic re-evaluation and link-checking. Some of these materials are organized into special collections, pathfinders (research guides) and FAQs (frequently asked questions), but most reside in the ipl2’s Resources by Subject collection (http://www.ipl.org/div/subject). This intern will work under the guidance of the Manager of Digital Collections to develop, organize and maintain the ipl2’s collections in cooperation with LIS students’ projects through their college/university’s coursework. The internship will instruct in finding, evaluating and describing/cataloging free and authoritative online resources.Contact for questions: Michael Galloway, Manager, Digital Collections, mike.galloway@drexel.edu
Both internships are offered for credit or for experience. Please indicate in your cover letter if you are applying for the internship for credit or for experience.Include in your cover letter any coursework that you have taken or plan to take that involves the ipl2. Interested students should send a resume and cover letter to Alison Miller, Reference Services Internship; or to Michael Galloway, Collection Development and Maintenance Internship.
Deadline for submission is March 15, 2010.
