Treasure Hunt Rules


The Great Palm Beach County Library Treasure Hunt

Official Rules


By participating in the Treasure Hunt each entrant agrees as follows:

ENTRANTS:  Entrants must be 13 (thirteen) years of age or older.  Parents and guardians of children 12 (twelve) years of age and under may co-register with children in this younger age group.   All entrants must register in order to participate in the Treasure Hunt.  Entrants may reside outside Palm Beach County.  Palm Beach County Library Association board members and Treasure Hunt committee members may not participate as entrants.

PRE-REGISTRATION:  Entrants may register for the Treasure Hunt in advance, but clues will not be released to any entrant prior to the start of the event.  The pre-registration period begins March 10, 2010.

CONTEST  PERIOD:  The Treasure Hunt shall coincide with National Library Week and begin at 10:00am ET, on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 10:00am and conclude on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at 5:00 pm ET. 

METHOD OF REGISTRATION AND ENTRY:  The cost for Treasure Hunt Contest registration is $5.00 and is non-refundable.  Entrants will be able to register in person at locations specified below between 10:00am and 3:00pm only on Saturday, April 10, 2010.  Online registration will be available March 10, 2010 through April 17, 2010, but clues will be made available online only through the contest period, April 10, 2010 through April 17, 2010.  Online entrants may register at http://pbcla.info/node/343.  (Electronic registration may take place at any time during the pre-registration period and through the week of the Great Palm Beach County Treasure Hunt.) 

In person registration will take place at 4 (four) Palm Beach County Library System locations:  Hagen Ranch Road Branch, Belle Glade Branch, Main Library at Summit Boulevard, or Jupiter Branch, on Saturday, April 10, 2010, between 10:00am and 3:00pm. The online registration period runs between March 10, 2010 and April 17, 2010. In-person registrants and those registering online with printed receipts may pick up a Treasure Hunt t-shirt at the 4 (four) library locations listed above.  Supplies of t-shirts may be limited.  

CLUES:  On Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 10:00 am,  the Treasure Hunt clues (questions) for the Great Palm Beach County Library Treasure Hunt will be made available to registrants on the Palm Beach County Library Association web site, http://pbcla.info, and in person at the 4 (four) library locations between 10:00am and 3:00pm.  Entrants are encouraged to begin their searches for answers to the questionsat participating libraries and at library web sites at their earliest convenience.  Entrants will seek answers to the questions by actually visiting each participating library or virtually as in the case of libraries that have clues available only through their web sitesA list of participating libraries appears as an appendix to the Official Rules.  This same list distinguishes between libraries that are available for in-person searches and those that encourage online-only searching.  Telephone calls or other forms of contact with library personnel for answers are prohibited.

SUBMISSION OF CLUES:  Answers to clues must be submitted electronically. Only one electronic submission per entrant is permitted.The email address listed on the entrant’s registration must match the email address on his or her submission form.

PRIZE:  A Sony Reader will be awarded to the entrant submitting the most correct answers to questions on the Treasure Hunt list.  The approximate value of the Sony Reader is $300.00. Prize does not include any other item or expense not specifically described in these Official Rules.  Once the prize is accepted by the winning entrant, the Palm Beach County Library Association takes no further responsibility for the prize.  Only the prize listed will be awarded and no substitutions or cash equivalents or redemption will be made.  The winner agrees to accept the prize “as is”, and entrants hereby acknowledge that Treasure Hunt sponsors have neither made or are in any manner responsible or liable for any warranty, representation, or guarantee, express or implied, in fact or in law, relative to the prize, including express warranties (if any) provided exclusively by a prize supplier that are sent along with the prize.  The prize is not transferable, redeemable for cash or exchangeable for any other prize.

SELECTION OF WINNER:  The first entrant to submit the greatest number of correct answers to the Treasure Hunt questions by the close of the contest, as determined by a panel of judges and the electronically generated date and time stamp, will be awarded the prize. The panel reserves the right to disqualify an entrant or entry at its sole discretion.  No correspondence shall be entered into.  Submissions will be received online only at http://pbcla.info .  If in the event two or more completely correct entries with the highest number of questions answered are received and stamped simultaneously, the entrants will be required to answer a tie-breaking set of questions so that a single winner may be determined.   Contending entrants will be notified that there is a tie and that at a date and time to be determined, tie-breaking questions will be released online.  Contending entrants will be given a 48-hour period during which they may submit their answers online.  The entrant who submits the most correct answers first as determined by the panel of judges and the time/date stamp will be judged the winner.

PUBLICITY, PRIVACY AND PRIZE NOTIFICATION:  The Palm Beach County Library Association Board of Directors reserves the right to use the winning entrant’s name and photo with the promotion of this contest.  If the winning entrant is a minor, a parent or legal guardian’s wishes will be honored in this regard.  The prize will be awarded within 10 (ten days) of issuance of prize notification.

GENERAL CONDITIONS:  The submission of an entry is solely the responsibility of the entrant. Only eligible entries actually received within the Entry Period will be included for review and judging. The Palm Beach County Library Association and its Treasure Hunt Committee members  are not responsible for late, lost, delayed, unclear, unintelligible, incomplete, misdirected or ineligible entries, which will be disqualified, or for technical, hardware, software, or telephone malfunctions of any kind, lost or unavailable network connections, or failed, incorrect, incomplete, inaccurate, garbled or delayed electronic communications caused by the sender, or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Treasure Hunt which may limit the ability to play or participate, or by any human error that may occur in the processing of the entries in the Treasure Hunt.  Further, the Palm Beach County Library Association takes no responsibility for accident or injury incurred while traveling to or from participating libraries and urges all participants to travel at all times with caution.

MISCELLANEOUS:  The names of individuals, groups, companies, products and services mentioned herein, and any corresponding likenesses, logos and images thereof reproduced herein, have been used for identification purposes only and may be the copyrighted properties and trademarks of their respective owners. The mention of any individual, group or Treasure Hunt Committee, or the inclusion of a product or service as a prize, does not imply any association with or endorsement by such individual, group or Palm Beach County Library Association or the manufacturer or distributor of such product or service and, except as otherwise indicated no association or endorsement is intended or should be inferred.
