Featured Program: Twitter for the Curious and Skeptical
Presented by Jenny Saxton, Reference Librarian, Miami Dade College Kendall Campus

What if there were just one online tool that could act as a social network, blog, text messenger, instant messenger, news aggregator, and search engine?  Well, there is such a tool, and…surprise! – it’s Twitter.  If you’ve resisted Twitter because you couldn’t care less what Ashton Kutcher had for breakfast, and you can’t imagine how Twitter could possibly be useful to you or your library, this presentation is for you.  Find out how joining the Twittersphere can keep you and your patrons informed and connected; how it differs from Facebook and other social tools; and how it just might simplify your life.

After several years of cataloging, resource development, and library administration, Jenny Saxton now enjoys being a “plain old vanilla reference librarian” at Miami Dade College Kendall Campus.  Her interests these days include social media, iPods in libraries, and education in virtual worlds.  She is an active member of the Dade County Library Association, and served as DCLA president from 2006 to 2008.  She currently serves on the College Center for Library Automation Access Standing Committee, and the Journal of Access Services Editorial Board.  Jenny was raised in New Haven, Connecticut, and holds an M.L.S. from Florida State University and a B.A. in mathematics from Quinnipiac College.  She is currently pursuing a graduate certificate in museum studies at Florida International University.
