NEWS: Job opening for a Business / reference / distance learning librarian (St. Petersburg, FL)

The University of South Florida St. Petersburg, Nelson Poynter Memorial Library invites applications for the position of Business Reference/Distance Learning Librarian. The application is available on USF's website.

Responsible to the Head of Public Services, the person in this position participates in developing, interpreting, and implementing policies and programs related to library instruction, the growth and acquisition of library collections, and access to information in all formats with an emphasis on business resources. This position assists faculty members and other staff in research, curriculum, and instruction in academic program planning and participates in the provision of general and specialized reference services, provides bibliographic instruction via classroom teaching, tours, and the development of web or other subject guides. The person in this position will also serve as the library liaison to the USFSP College of Business and work closely with faculty and the Coordinator, Distance Learning & Instructional Media Services in support of a growing distance learning program. The person in this position may serve on select campus committees directly related to the position’s primary areas of responsibility, i.e. distance learning and business. This is a visiting faculty position with benefits. The appointment is for one year with possible renewal for up to four years.

NEWS: Workshop "What Gen X Parents Are Looking For In Library Programs For Their Young Children"

SEFLIN workshop to be held at the Boynton Beach City Library on November 4:

The workshop - Presented by: Carole Fiore, Training and Library Consulting - will focus on early learning and development standards - Birth through age 4.

Storytime is not just entertainment anymore! The parents of the children attending our story hours today are Gen Xers (a generation known for its pragmatism and its results orientation). These parents are likely to respond favorable to programming that, while entertaining, promotes not only literacy, but also the development of skills that lead to school children and their parents and caregivers with the desire to become lifelong readers, learners, and library users. During this interactive workshop participants will be introduced to methods, tricks, and tips to introduce books and reading activities. Find out how you can help entice children to books and reading. Fiore will introduce books and materials for children from pre readers through early elementary grades. You will leave with program ideas! The workshop will incorporate the updated Department of Education Voluntary PreK standards.

NEWS: Call to Artist: contest begins for new association logo

PBCLA announces a contest for a new logo design. The entrant who submits the winning logo will be given a $200 prize. Participants may be high school age and older. Deadline for submission is November 1, 2009. Official rules and specifications are attached. Entries are to be submitted to pbcla.blog@gmail.com.
