Get the most from business gatherings, parties and "working" a room by learning the art of successful networking. It's more than collecting business cards. Networking builds relationships that ultimately benefit your career, your business and/or your organization's mission. Learn to mingle, read body language, build rapport and think on your feet without your Power Point and handouts. Participants put the techniques into practice on the spot during this interactive workshop! Please click "read more" to learn about the presenter, Annetta Wilson.

In this workshop, you’ll discover a step-by-step system to create a short, unusual and sometimes quirky reply to the question “What do you do?” This is for you even if you know what you do, but you’re still trying to get laser-focused on your target market and how to talk to them. The last thing you want to do is bore people to death or make them feel you’re trying to “sell” them!

Have you ever searched in vain for a comprehensive source for Florida authors? Staci Alesi of the Palm Beach County Library System has spearheaded an effort to compile a website that meets this need. Please visit the new Florida Authors wiki to see the results. You can read Staci's comments about the project below; please click on "read more" for a full introduction.

The Readers' Advisory committee at the Southwest County Regional Library in Boca Raton, Florida was very busy this summer. We took our Web 2.0 training to the next level and created a Florida Authors Wiki. Florida authors are popular not only in Florida, but worldwide and there hasn't been any definitive place for information - until now.

The Lee County Library has had a list of Florida authors on their website for years. But it is just that; a list. We used their list as our jumping off point, but we wanted to know why those authors were included on that list. By adding more content via the wiki, we have created something that we hope is much more comprehensive and user friendly.

PBCLA welcomes new member Cathy Scheid

Cathy Scheid earned her Masters in Library and Information Science from the University of Texas in 2001 but her library experience goes back to middle school, Cathy at the beach where she volunteered typing up catalog cards. Her small town librarians helped to instill a love of learning and a respect for libraries that would lead to a career in the field. She worked for the Jupiter campus of Florida Atlantic University for almost 5 years, working in the diverse areas of reference, circulation, instruction, collection development, and interlibrary loan.

After spending one year in records management, Cathy is now the Director of Library Services for Everglades University in Boca Raton.
