Please Welcome New Member Lindsey Nuzzo!

I recently graduated from Westminster College (Pennsylvania) with a B.A. in Public Relations. I am currently living and working in Palm Beach County, Florida, finishing my year of service as a Literacy AmeriCorps member. Through the AmeriCorps program, I have organized and implemented an after school homework and reading assistance program at The Boynton Beach City Library, while volunteering weekly at local service projects and compiling our program's newsletter. I have thoroughly enjoyed dedicating a year of my life to serve others and the experiences I've had are truly invaluable.

Because of my successful year in Boynton Beach (and after persistent persuasion by the Boynton library staff) I have come to love working in the library environment and want to continue my professional career in libraries. My long –term plan is to return to Graduate School to earn my Master’s Degree in Library and Information Studies -- and eventually combine my two degrees to perform public and media relations functions for a library. Currently, I am seeking employment in Palm Beach County -- either at a library or in the public relations field-- to supplement (and help pay for) graduate school.

As someone with a broad range of passions -- books, service to the public, media, writing, publication design, technology, literacy, etc. -- I am eager to begin a career where I can effectively utilize and continue to build upon my abilities and skills and contribute to the ever-evolving library environment.

Michelle is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin School of Library and Information Studies.

At The Palm Beach Post, Michelle uses online databases, the Internet, and other sources to find background information on people, places and things. She also contributes to PalmBeachPost.com and the Post affiliate site, HistoricPalmBeach.com. When she's not working part-time at the Post, Michelle is working full-time at home as mom, cook, cleaning lady, laundress, photographer, computer tech support, and whatever else comes up.

NEWS: Please welcome new PBCLA member Janis Holden!

Almost 30 years after receiving my Bachelor's degree in English, I finally decided what I wanted to be when I grew up - a librarian! What a surprise it was to return to school in the 21st century. There were very few computers around campus in the 1970s. It was the era of microfiche and bound volumes of periodical indices that seemed to stretch for miles. Luckily for me, my career path had always involved computers. I hadn't realized the extent that to which information had been digitized.

Last summer, I experienced the thrill of receiving my MLIS from Florida State University with my 22 year old daughter cheering from the stands. I am the Learning Resources Center Manager at Strayer University, Palm Beach Gardens Campus. I teach adult learners about information literacy, researching scholarly databases, APA format and why you can't always rely on Wikipedia. I love what I do now. I am one of the privileged few who actually look forward to going to work each day.

NEWS: Please welcome new PBCLA member Amanda Sarra!

Amanda grew up in the “City of Pure Water,” Zephyrhills, Florida. She is a graduate of the University of Florida and the University of South Florida.  Prior to her library career, Amanda was a zookeeper and an animal trainer, working with species ranging from alligators to zebras.  However, despite all the exotic animals that she worked with, goats are quite possibly her favorite.  Amanda became interested in librarianship while working at Disney’s Animal Kingdom; it is home to a superb library which provides keepers, educators and veterinarians with much-needed information on animals’ natural histories.

Amanda has been employed by Everglades University since December 2007, first as the Boca Raton Campus Librarian and, more recently, as the Director of Library Services for all campuses.  She enjoys helping on campus and online students with library research and APA format and building the library collection of alternative medicine, aviation, business and construction management resources. In her free time Amanda loves to read, watch movies, teach Jazzercise classes, and look after her five cats—Myla, Dutch, Modoc, Madison, and Mufasa.
